Overview

Overview

Wynns Black Label Cabernet is a true icon of Australian wine. First produced in 1954, it has a reputation for ageing gracefully and displaying excellent varietal and regional characteristics. The wine is produced from only the top quality 20 to 25 per cent of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit grown in our terra rossa vineyards.

A wine of style and stature - and a perennial favourite in auction circles - ‘Black Label’ is one of Australia’s most collectable wines and Australia’s benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon. It consistently delivers potential for medium to long-term cellaring.

Taste Description

Taste Description

Nose

Multilayered and intense aromas, elegant and attractive, with the appearance of ripe dark fruits dark cherry and blackberry notes, and hints of complex spice.

Flavours and Palate

Impressively balanced and soft with a feeling of ripe fruit, black pepper, dry leaves and soft acidity. Polished, fine French oak stretches out the back palate and enhances the dark and brambly notes. The tannins are ‘melted’, perfectly ripe, and the finish is long, smooth, fragrant and juicy.

"Another wine from Wynns and the '12 vintage that shows a significant change in winemaking direction, with the alcohol of 13.5%. While the Woodley Treasure Chest wines were basically shiraz, none wholly cabernet sauvignon, this wine has a structure those wines had in their early maturity. What is most interesting here is the early development on the palate of savoury flavours and firm tannins, yet allowing the fruit to maintain its line through to the all-important finish, where balance is not in question."

"Redcurrant and blackcurrant, almost raspberry accented, whiff of aniseed perfume, light mocha oak and a little tobacco. Medium bodied only – lithe and light – firm pull of open weave fine grained tannin and a crunchy fresh finish. Thickens up as it takes the air but at no stage does it become heavy. All just so. Great release, and as they say in the classics, has years up it."
