Overview

Overview

Wynns Black Label Cabernet is a true icon of Australian wine. First produced in 1954, it has a reputation for ageing gracefully and displaying excellent varietal and regional characteristics. The wine is produced from only the top quality 20 to 25 per cent of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit grown in our terra rossa vineyards.

A wine of style and stature - and a perennial favourite in auction circles - ‘Black Label’ is one of Australia’s most collectable wines and Australia’s benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon. It consistently delivers potential for medium to long-term cellaring.

Taste Description

Taste Description

Nose

Multilayered and intense aromas, elegant and attractive, with the appearance of ripe dark fruits dark cherry and blackberry notes, and hints of complex spice.

Flavours and Palate

Impressively balanced and soft with a feeling of ripe fruit, black pepper, dry leaves and soft acidity. Polished, fine French oak stretches out the back palate and enhances the dark and brambly notes. The tannins are ‘melted’, perfectly ripe, and the finish is long, smooth, fragrant and juicy.

"Selected from the upper branches of Wynn's Coonawarra Estate's immense tree of cabernet, benefiting from all the investment made in reviving and/or replanting parts of lesser-performing plots. This is a top class Black Label, fully deserving this price. It is plush and pliant, varietal character oozing from its blackcurrant fruit, balanced tannins and oak."

Anticipated, awaited, people jones for the Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon. Even tempered, reliable, structured, cellar-worthy. All that and more. No doubt that the reign of Sue Hodder at the helm of Wynn’s has been pivotal, phenomenal, legacy-making. Brilliant to see.

Superb release. Unruffled pedigree here. Understated cabernet that thumbs its nose at the universe saying ‘Coonawarra has a righteous place amongst the stars’. It’s a purring flow of knitted tannins woven firm over succulent, dark berried, fine garrigue, graphite-edged fruit character. Tight, just medium weighted, exceptionally long, controlled and ultra fine in its finish. It’s not for now so much as a generation from now, but there’s a greedy pleasure in early approach and admiring what’s in your glass. Excellent wine.

A warm spring with even flowering and set, giving good yields. A mild summer, and long ripening period delivered full fruit flavours and balanced acidity. An outstanding Coonawarra vintage.
