V&A Lane Cabernet Shiraz 2014 Museum Release

Overview

Overview

The Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards from V&A Lane have been important contributors to Wynns’ top wines for many years. However this area is also gaining a reputation for a great Shiraz and a marriage of the two varieties is a part of Wynns history, going back to its earliest blends.

Note: The tasting note reflects the wine when it was tasted in 2013 upon its release. It has since evolved and developed further complexity following years of careful bottle maturation in our cellars.
Our winemaking team have recently tasted this wine and confirmed its condition. It is drinking beautifully today showcasing intriguing aged characteristics that can only be derived with the passage of time.

Taste Description

Taste Description

Nose

Concentrated mulberry and blackberry with hints of flinty shale and distilled blood orange.

Flavours and Palate

Co-fermentation creates a rich and textured style. The long time on skins takes the fruit into savoury and complex territory. Dark brambly fruits are layered with wet tobacco aniseed and peppery spice. Velvety tannin creates depth and is defined by crisp acidity and beautiful line, leaving the palate full and long with a smoky gravelly finish.

Bob Campbell

"Quite a complex red that initially showed sweet dark berry fruits before revealing cinnamon and other spices and finishing with a jaffa, mandarin and dark chocolate note. There is also a suggestion of florals. Quite accessible but with potential. 95 Points."

Campbell Mattinson

"It’s medium-bodied. Emphatically so. That’s a (very) good thing. It shows plum, redcurrant and boysenberry before tipping into blackcurrant territory, notes of bay leaf, fennel and tea-soaked tobacco adding breadth to the flavour profile. Oak adds a slipperiness more than it does flavour; you’d have to say that balance is a key feature. Is there a hint of black pepper here? Perhaps. I like the flow of this. The succulent ease. 93 Points."
