Overview

Overview

The Cabernet vineyards of V&A Lane are known for their depth and character, long contributing to some of Wynns’ finest wines. This blend draws inspiration from the Wynns ‘claret story’ of the 1950s, a time when wines were shaped to a house style rather than defined by fixed proportions. In that spirit, Cabernet and Shiraz are now harvested on the same day and co-fermented, to create harmony from the outset.

V&A Lane was formed to present a contrasting interpretation of our two most beloved varieties. An intentionally early harvest highlights a fresh red fruit spectrum, supported by naturally lower alcohol, wild ferments and maturation in larger-format oak. The result is a wine of freshness and energy, food-friendly in style, yet grounded in heritage.

Taste Description

Taste Description

Nose

The classic Australian red blend, Cabernet and Shiraz, has long played a role in the great wines from Wynns. For this modern version, the two varieties are co-fermented and see time in larger oak for maturation. The winemaking aims to accentuate the freshness and the red berries found in the wine. Cranberry, pomegranate, and mulberry fruits, but also a touch of black cherries and liquorice. There are notes of warm earth, coffee grinds, dry herbs, and dark chocolate shavings.

Flavours and Palate

Cofermentation of two varieties creates a complex and balanced style, with a distinct tannin structure. Dark brambly fruits are complemented by black tea, aniseed, and peppery spices, with velvety tannin providing depth and the perfect balance of crisp acidity and graceful harmony.

Tony Love | Wine Pilot | May 2026

"An extraordinary wine with a wonderful link to the past generation of Wynns clarets, which were built around this classic Australian blend. If you have shied away from this blend thinking it might be a bit on the heavy side, this will turn your head. Bright, sensual, smart, lively companionship – wine of the highest social connectivity." 97 Points.

Ray Jordan | Wine Pilot | May 2026

"Picked a little earlier to highlight the vibrancy and energy of these two varieties when they are linked. Unlike the straight Shiraz, this one also gets some new oak and puncheons. The colour is quite deep. And once again, the lifted red fruits of red cherry and cranberry are well to the fore. Perfectly integrated and charmingly poised, this is the most stylish and expressive example of this combination in this particular style." 96 Points.
